Figures - Graduation Campaign

Brief
For this brief students had to look to the future, and create an integrated design which promoted the graduation show of their year. A strong concept which could travel beyond the poster into merchandise and other promotional materials was crucial to this brief, and above all else, a look which captured the attitude of the graduates of 2022!
Concept:
A kettle of fish, a can of worms, and a horse of a different colour all appear on a poster -  this isn’t the setup to a joke. It's the inspiration for my graduation exhibition, “Figures”. 

My project is inspired by figures of speech which mean “different” (and at times messy or confusing), an appropriate theme for a group of students who started first year in lockdown in 2020, and continued to live and study through Eskom, enforced curfew, online learning, and a whole lot else up until the beginning of 2022.

"Figures" was selected by the Cape Town Creative Academy to promote the student exhibition for our year in 2022. Below are the poster designs, as put together by the talented lectures and marketing team of CTCA.

Reflection:
Overall, this is one my most successful project so far in communication design. I have gained confidence in being able to create a playful and creative style. I enjoyed working with bold primary colours and visuals which are grounded in a strong concept. With this brief I had the guts to depart with the corporate and clean look that’s often expected and to play around with the conceptual, and at times, artistic side of design.

It was such an honour to have my work selected for the graduate highlights exhibition of 2022.Seeing my work around the CTCA campus and VNA Waterfront was truly an otherworldly experience!
